If having baby #5 wasn't enough of a change for us, we also decided to make a career change. It's always been our desire for Jeremy to have a job that not only had the potential to bring in more income but allowed for more family time and flexibility. He was constantly under fire at his non profit job and we were tired of the persecution and stress. All areas of our life were suffering and had been for ages. We'd talked about getting into real estate for years. With Jeremy's background in mortgages we at least had a leg up in the understanding of the field. It's crazy scary to talk about walking away from a salary position to a commission only job.
Jeremy completed his real estate classes by the end of February. And by the end of March we were ready to make our move. The Lord brought an opportunity for him to work on a real estate team instead of flying solo. That of course meant much less commission per deal but it meant more deals and not starting from scratch. So he turned in his two week notice only to have them ask to leave on the spot. We had tax returns and some money from back owed bonuses to help us through the transition. We weren't really sure what to expect income wise with real estate but we were determined to make it work. Word got around that Jeremy had left his job and his phone started ringing with other agencies interested in hiring him. He had one job interview in Atlanta which thankfully didn't work. The he got a call from a state agency in Nashville which was a full time offer with benefits to work from home and still be able to do real estate and make the 2 hour drive into the office once a week. Hum, sounded good but they didn't have the income details so we weren't sure if we were interested or not. Mind you this was just days after leaving his previous job.
We hadn't spent much money yet. Lol. Well.....we did trade in his CRV with 220000 miles, a cracked windshield, and an irreparable axle problem for a used snazzy red Hyundai. His main job as an agent is to show properties so he has to have a "nicer" car for clients to ride in. Plus we needed something with really good gas mileage since we live so far from the city where most of his clients are. Three weeks later we still didn't know the income of the state job but by this time we were realizing that we were going to have to have some supplemental income until the real team acquired more business or else we were going to burn through our savings quickly. Then Jeremy got a call from another agency in Nashville. This time he actually met with the president, who is someone he's worked with through his old job. The offer was appealing but it was commission/percentage and there were several other concerns regarding greed and personal relationships.
So we finally, almost a month after the initial offer, got the official offer from the state agency in Nashville. Would you believe that actually offered him MORE than what he made at his previous job AND he gets to work from home. Wow! After years of being scared of the unknown, we stepped out into the dark and after a month of uncertainty, God provided in a way that will forever blow my mind. The job is temporary long term. Full time real estate is our goal. It's our family vision. So for now Jeremy will do both, full time work from home with the state agency and continue to do real estate with the team. There are a lot of kinks and wrinkles we will work out over the next few months but we are so grateful and truly awe struck at God's provision and His plan.
